Hampton Oval – LED lighting installation

Overview

Hampton Oval is a central sporting and community facility located along Dampier’s foreshore, regularly hosting sporting activities, community events and recreational use.

Karratha Electrical Group (KEG) was engaged to deliver a complete new LED sports lighting installation, providing the infrastructure required to support nighttime use of the oval.

KEG managed the project from initial design through to final commissioning, including engineering coordination, construction management, electrical infrastructure, lighting controls and direct client reporting.

Scope of works

Complete project management, design coordination, construction supervision and direct client reporting.
Engagement and coordination of structural engineering, geotechnical assessments and specialist construction contractors.
Sports lighting design review and coordination with Musco Lighting to achieve the required illumination levels.
Design and construction of four reinforced concrete foundations for 24-metre lighting poles.
Supply and installation of four 24-metre sports lighting poles, including crane lifting operations.
Supply and installation of the complete Musco LED sports floodlighting system.
Design, supply and installation of electrical distribution infrastructure, switchboards, independent metering, underground cabling and earthing systems.
Design and commissioning of Musco Control-Link, providing remote operation, individual pole control and selectable lighting levels.
Integration of surrounding precinct lighting, including pathways, playground and shelter areas.
Complete electrical testing, luminaire aiming, lighting performance verification and final commissioning.

Outcomes

Successfully delivered a complete design-to-commissioning LED sports lighting installation.
Installed four 24-metre lighting poles supporting the new Musco LED lighting system.
Achieved an average measured illumination level of 260 lux, exceeding the 250 lux design target.
Implemented a remotely managed lighting control system with flexible operating and dimming options.
Extended the oval’s functionality to accommodate evening sporting activities, community events and recreation.
Delivered modern, energy-efficient lighting infrastructure designed for reliable long-term operation in the Pilbara environment.
